Revolutionary War Report

Sir Walter Raleigh (who was one of queen Elizabeths most trusted advisors) was granted a charter to establish a colony in virginia. So in 1585 John White took over 100 men, women, and children who set out to North America to try and colonize in the new world. In 1585 the first English people arrived at Roanoke Islands. They hung around about a year before heading back to England. Again in 1587 Raleigh sent more colonists to Roanoke lead again by John White. After a while the colonists were running low on supplies so they asked John White to get more food and tools. So he headed back on the ship to England. As soon as returned a war between England and Spain began. The Spanish armada which was made of over 300 large navy ships attacked England. Supriseingly England overtook the Spanish ships because of their abilities to turn sharper and faster and they could dock in the English ports. Even though John White was trusted by the queen she was more focused on the war so he could't get a ship back to America. It took him almost 3 years to get a ship back so when he returned he could'nt find any traces of the colonie. All he could find was the word CROATOAN scratched into a tree. From then on Roanoke was known as the lost colony. In 1606 a group of London merchants asked for a charter from King James I. The group sold stock as they planned to colonize in Virginia near Chesapeake Bay, and anyone who bought stock would get a share of all profits the colony produced. When they arrived in 1607 they settled near a large river they named it the James River after their King James I. The river though was a saltwater river so they didn't have a lot of water to drink, but another problem they faced was the masquitos who carried disease. Over half of the colonists died in their first summer. They found a group of Indians named the Powhatan. At first the colonists and the Indians co-existed in peace, but not for long.

The French and Indian War: was a war between France and Great Brittian over the Ohio River Valley and other lands in North America. The war was from 1754-1763. Remember how I said the Indians and colonists didn't co-exist in peace for long; the Indians got irritated at the white people taking to much from 'their' lands so once the war begun the Indians joined the French side.
